FAQ
WHY SHOULD PARENTS B PIRATES?
Argh, good question matey! A short two-part answer is that at some point most children love pirates, so it's an inside track to winning the hearts and minds of your children. Another partially correct answer is that odds are it is the only way you are gonna get to have a parrot.
Seriously, the name is a way of attracting attention to a social issue that impacts everyone. Family courts around the world are failing to protect fundamental human rights even though they are required by international and their own national laws to protect them. The impact of this failure on the part of legal professionals is compounded by the failure of forensic psychologists to conduct the proper diagnostic evaluations of families going through a divorce. Their failure results in undiagnosed child psychological abuse and spouse intimate partner abuse with the child as a weapon.
WHAT DOES THE PARENTSBPIRATES TAGLINE "CHAMPION LOVING PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS" MEAN?
It means several things. The word "champion" in this context means that you defend or speak in favor of loving parent-child relationships. Today sadly it seems family courts around the world are inclined to allow a child whose parents divorced to lose a once loving parent-child relationship with one parent when the other parent is not able to understand parents divorcing does not alter the structure of a child's family. So to champion loving parent-child relationships you speak out in favor of them, and you work to educate children, family court professionals, and society at large about the importance of such relationships.
WHAT DOES A LOVING PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIP LOOK LIKE?
In U.S. Supreme Court decisions for the father to demonstrate such relationships evidence that the father has been involved to the best of his ability in the care and nurturing of the child is often a threshold hurdle.
WHY DOESN'T THE PARENTSBPIRATES MOVEMENT JUST COME OUT AND SAY IT IS FIGHTING PARENTAL ALIENATION?
There are more than a couple of reasons but we will address two here. First, as established by Dr. Craig Childress that term does not describe a medically existing problem. Another is that it is more productive to be for something and to encourage conversation about those things you want to see more of in the world than to give attention to thoughts or behaviors you want to go away.
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF PARENTSBPIRATES?
To assure the divorce of parents does not cause any child to lose their relationship with a loving parent. We intend to achieve this goal through education.
